Hi Contributor,

zunächst einmal kurz zur Today's Liberation Campaign , die du in deinem letzten Post noch ins Spiel gebracht hast.
Genau die Stelle mit den Bierchen und den Tischdecken hat mich im Prinzip auch gestört, jedoch kann ich den Machern schlecht vorschreiben, was sie auf ihrer Website veröffentlichen. Was mich an der Today's Liberation Campaign interessiert hat, war vielmehr die Idee, die deutsche Nation daraufhin abzuklopfen, inwieweit der antiamerikanische deutsche Mainstream denn so anders handelt und denkt , als die oft kritisierten neoliberalen "Amis". Diesen Punkt habe ich im Videointerview dann auch stärker herausgearbeitet und die Stelle mit den Tischdecken taucht nichtmal in meinem Website-Interview auf, obwohl die Macher es auch dort gesagt haben. In diesem Sinne ist das TLC-Interview zwar kein hieb- und stichfestes Paradebeispiel für Überidentifizierung, gibt aber dem unkundigen Zuschauer ein ungefähres Bild davon, was damit gemeint ist.

Die Sache mit Dr. Lafargue ist zugegebenermaßen im Internet nicht wirklich sinnvoll, was aber mit dem Interview im Endeffekt geschehen wird, schreibe ich dir gerne per e-mail und nicht auf einer öffentlichen Website.

Dass Kunst und KG nicht identisch sind, habe ich mir fast schon gedacht ;-) Ich habe mich nicht nur aus Wikipedia informiert, auch wenn dies die Links auf meiner Site nahelegen. Sie sind größtenteils aus grundsätzlicher Sympathie zu Wikipedia verwendet worden. Tatsächlich glaube ich, dass ich sehr viele bis fast jedes Buch gelesen habe, was zwischen 1970 und heute über KG und Culture Jamming etwas zu sagen hatte. Dementsprechend bin ich auch mit einem Theoriekeulen-Fragenkatalog auf die Aktivisten und Culture Jammer losgegangen.
Natürlich haben diese die meisten Fragen einfach ignoriert, nicht verstanden oder mit ihrer eigenen Praxis nicht vereinbaren können.
Da ich eine Fernsehreportage mache, ist mir sehr schnell klargeworden, dass es nicht das Ziel sein kann, meinen oder deinen Wissenstand auf die Menschheit loszulassen, weil da kommt dann keiner mehr mit, der nicht bereit ist sehr viel Zeit in Lektüre und Recherche zu stecken.
Ich bin auf das angewiesen was die Aktivisten und Kuratoren und Theoretiker sagen und wenn die anders sind oder denken als ich, dann ist das eben so und muss so wiedergegeben werden.
Dass dabei etwas besser recherchiertes und tiefer angelegtes als Polylux rauskommt, will ich hoffen, aber an ein auch noch so banales Werk wie "Culture Jamming" von Kalle Lasn, wird die Reportage natürlich nicht rankommen können, es sei denn, ich will ausschließlich im Mini-Programmkino laufen.

Das Wort "Stilmittel", an dem du dich so reibst, ist nur ein Wort, ich kann es gerne durch Methoden oder Praxen ersetzten. Überhaupt bin ich als jemand der immer noch für eine Reportage recherchiert, interessiert an Anregungen und Kritik. Ich schreibe mir keine Definitionsmacht zu, und ob dies jeder tut, der eine Website ins Netz stellt oder wie sinnvoll dann das Wort Definitionsmacht noch wäre, sei mal dahingestellt.
Von da her geht an dich (und jeden anderen Leser dieses Blogs) die Einladung mir Beispiele zu nennen bei denen KG oder Culture Jamming besser funktioniert hat als bei meinen Beispielen und an ungenauen Darstellungen auf meiner Website kritisch mitzuarbeiten. Ich verarbeite das was ich vorfinde und ob ich das dann gut finde, ob das mit meiner Definition von KG noch zusammenpasst oder ob KG im Sinne einer Situationistischen Revolutionstheorie überhaupt noch sinnvoll ist, darf mich da nicht interessieren. Sonst mache ich eine schlechte Reportage oder verliere mich so stark in Diskurse und Haarspaltereien, dass selbst das wenige, das durch das Medium Fernsehen hindurchdringt, nur noch Oberseminaristen erreicht.

"Over the past year there have been an increasing number of attacks on the activities of radicals and progressives in the academy. These attacks have both occurred in the US (with the media circus around Ward Churchill and the attempts to pin trumped bioterrorism charges on Steve Kurtz from the Critical Art Ensemble) to the controversy around the invited appearance of Antonio Negri at a conference in Australia. Most recently Yale anthropologist David Graeber has been fired under somewhat dubious circumstances that appear to be largely politically motivated.

As argued by Angela Mitropoulos in her article ‘Physiognomy of Civilisation’1 it is not the truth or falsity of the claims that matter for making them is damaging enough in itself. Furthermore, it is not enough to fall back on claims of academic freedom or appeals to the status of being a philosopher or well respected academic. For if there existed a space in the alleged ivory towers where this kind of protection was afforded (which is doubtful to begin with), this very depoliticization of knowledge often served to mask other forms of nefarious power and dealings.

Spielzeuge waren einst handgefertigt und zum Spielen, heute sind sie hervorragend gefertigte industrielle Produkte mit einem weltweiten Verbreitungsgrad und werden oftmals gesammelt. Federal judge gives the go-ahead to Kurtz case
Motion to dismiss charges "premature'

Prosecution of Steven Kurtz has caused artists' outcry.

A criminal case that has upset many people in the art world will continue to move forward in federal court here.

In an opinion issued late Thursday, U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr. refused to recommend dismissal of charges against Steven J. Kurtz, a University at Buffalo art professor who was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2004.
Kurtz, 47, is a founding member of the Critical Arts Ensemble, a group whose art exhibits often criticize the federal government. His indictment touched off debate about artistic freedom and the government's efforts to tightly control the distribution of bacterial agents in the post-9/11 era.

It would be "premature" to dismiss the charges, Schroeder wrote. The judge also refused to recommend the suppression of evidence taken from Kurtz's Allentown home after his wife died there in May 2004.

"Even if it assumed . . . that the government will fall short in the required proof, a motion to dismiss the indictment must be considered as being premature and inappropriate in addressing that issue," Schroeder wrote.

The judge said he will schedule a hearing to determine whether some statements Kurtz made to Buffalo police should be suppressed.

Kurtz and Robert E. Ferrell, a human genetics researcher at the University of Pittsburgh, are charged with illegally obtaining bacterial agents from a laboratory in Virginia. They are charged with felony mail fraud and wire fraud.

Kurtz's attorney, Paul J. Cambria Jr., had argued that no actual crime was committed. He said Kurtz obtained "harmless" forms of bacteria that he planned to use "in an art exhibit, to make a political point."

"We plan to appeal this ruling," Cambria said Thursday. "Judge Schroeder didn't say we were wrong. He said we would have to wait until trial to make that [dismissal] motion." Kurtz had no immediate comment. Edmund J. Cardoni Jr., a friend and supporter, said he is certain the ruling will cause "shock and anger" in the art world. "I'm still baffled as to why the federal government is using its resources to pursue this case," said Cardoni, executive director of Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center in Buffalo. "In my opinion, Steve is being specifically targeted because he is a dissenting voice."

Many artists in this country and Europe have protested the indictments, holding demonstrations in Buffalo and other cities. Some have accused federal agents of unfairly targeting Kurtz because they consider him a subversive. The government denies those allegations

Artists have raised more than $200,000 for Kurtz's defense fund. Schroeder's ruling is only considered an opinion at this point, and Cambria plans to ask a U.S. district judge, John T. Elfvin, for a ruling on the indictment and the evidence. Assistant U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said he is "gratified that the judge reached the conclusion that the police searches were valid and the indictment was proper." While authorities never accused the two men of having any intent to commit terrorist acts, their case resulted from an investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force of Western New York, led by the FBI.

The case had its start on May 12, 2004, when Buffalo police were called to Kurtz's home after the death of his wife, Hope Kurtz.

Police said they called federal agents because they were suspicious about the death and because they found an "apparent biological laboratory." The home was temporarily sealed off by FBI agents wearing biohazard suits.

According to court papers, Kurtz told Buffalo police he had a "biodispersion device" that "could be used to disperse bacteria" in the home. Cambria is seeking to suppress that statement and others, which would make them inadmissible as trial evidence. Last January, Cambria filed court papers asking for dismissal of the charges. He said federal agents took a harmless series of events and remarks and tried to portray Kurtz and Ferrell as "bioterrorists."

But Hochul said Thursday that the men are accused simply of fraud and not of any terrorism-related crime. He said Ferrell, who contended that the bacteria was for use in his own university's laboratory, purchased it under "false pretenses" for Kurtz.
